Let’s Play 10 Questions! Getting to Know Jo.
Hey friends, welcome to my blog. I’m Jonell, and if you read my About page, you have a pretty solid foundation on all things WSXJO (Words, Styled By Jo). But what about the woman behind the scenes? Well, I’m about to open the vault. It’s time to jump on in and learn more about me!
Name (and pronunciation, please!)
It’s Jonell, pronounced Joe-nell.
Where Am I From?
I was born in Trinidad, West Indies. When I was two, my parents moved to Los Angeles, CA, and when I was five, we moved to Orlando, FL where I was raised most of my life. I’ve lived in Phoenix, AZ, and three years ago, I moved back to Florida.
Relationship Deets?
I am in love with my partner, Bryan. We have been together for eight years and we have a son named Chai. He’s 5 years old.
4. Sign?
Aquarius. But I’m not one to follow the zodiac signs and charts.
5. Favorite color?
Pink! All shades and hues of pink. I love the color so much, I incorporated it into my branding.
6. What is my personal style?
I would like to think of myself as a bohemian, but honestly, I think I embodied that style more in my twenties. My closet today is a mix of silk blouses, white tees, wide-leg denim, sneakers, funky heels, and LOTS of jewelry! I’m into collecting vintage silk shirts from the 80’s. Sounds weird, but I strongly believe the 70’s-80’s were the best era in fashion. Give me a blouse tucked into flare jeans and a heeled sandal, and I can conquer the world.
7. Why do I love jewelry so much?
My mom was and is a jewelry aficionado. She had collected some stunning pieces over the years. Growing up, jewelry was the gift given for momentous occasions like anniversaries, baptisms, graduations, and birthdays. I remember watching her as she put on her makeup and as soon as she’d put on the jewels, her aura would just beam. Jewelry is transformative.
8. Favorite Drink?
In the morning, it’s coffee. During the day, it’s tea. To unwind, it’s a jalapeno margarita all day or a chilled Moscato d’Asti.
9. Besides copywriting, what else lights my fire?
Fashion illustration and abstract art.
10. Any wise parting words?
Keep going. Even when the road ahead looks rough, your dreams are worth pursuing.
